Jamaica Blue Mountain is the world's most expensive and sought-after coffee. It is famous for its complex aroma and flavor, light body and lack of bitterness. Many regard Jamaica Blue Mountain as the best coffee in the world.
The Blue Mountains lie north of Kingston, the capitol of Jamaica. The coffee that shares a name with the mountain range must be grown in the higher altitudes of the Blue Mountains (approximately 3000-5500 feet above sea level) to bear the Blue Mountain name. Coffee grown in the Blue Mountains is some of the highest grown coffee in the world.
Jamaica Blue Mountain is also very rare. Because of heavy Japanese investment in the Jamaican coffee industry, most Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee ends up in Japan. The little that is left is spread over the rest of the world. In addition, Jamaica produces very little coffee compared to many other famous coffee producing countries. Most Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee can cost over $50 a pound in coffee shops due to the rarity.
