Semi-Automatic Espresso Machines

Semi-Automatic espresso machines are the most common type of espresso machines found in the home. They are not quite automatic because the user still has to grind and tamp the coffee beans, then time the espresso shot. In addition, if milk is desired with th espresso machine, the barista must steam the milk manually. However, semi-automatic espresso machines do not require the user to pull a lever which pumps hot water through the coffee. Semi-automatic machines have pumps which are activated by a button or switch which performs this tricky process. With a machine pumping the water through the coffee, there is a much lower chance of pulling a bad shot.

Semi-Automatic machines provide enough functionality for a home user to make great espresso with very little practice, and are usually significantly less expensive than fully automatic espresso machines.

Here are some of the best Semi-Automatic espresso machine brands:

Cuisinart

DeLonghi

FrancisFrancis!

Gaggia

Krups

Lavazza

La Marzocco

La Pavoni

Nespresso

Pasquini

Saeco
